Transactions, accounts, analysis, automation and backups. Some options need to be enabled in Settings → Features first.
After saving, the entry form clears and stays open for the next transaction.
Record income or an expense with an amount, account and category. Calculate the amount directly on the built-in keypad.
Use parent categories and subcategories for income and expenses. Create a category during entry and continue the same transaction.
Enable Parent Category Entry to use a parent category even when it has subcategories. This option is off by default.
Optionally compare a planned amount with actual spending and review savings or extra spending by category. You choose whether to use accumulated savings allowance; it does not change account balances.
Choose the source and destination accounts and amount. Transfers move funds between accounts without counting as income or spending.
Pay for one purchase from several accounts. Allocate the payment amount to each account while keeping one complete transaction.
Allocate an expense to several categories, each with its own tags. Category allocations and payment-account allocations are independent.
Link a refund or shared-expense reimbursement to the original expense and review net spending. Swipe an expense to start a prefilled refund, then review and save it.
Enter the full purchase amount and payment schedule once. Each installment creates its own expense. All account types are supported; unpaid principal is shown separately from payments already made.
Record an item’s name and first-use date, plus refunds and resale proceeds. View its cost per actual day, month or year of use.
Add the transaction date, tags and a note for later searches, filters and reviews.
Choose a transaction currency and search for more currencies to enable. Adding a currency during entry preserves your amount, account and note.
Press and drag a transaction to change its position within the same day, without changing its date, amount or account.
Find transactions by amount or keyword, then narrow the results by account, category, tag or date.
Swipe to copy a transaction or copy it from the editor. Review and edit the prefilled details before saving. Canceling adds nothing.
Drag along the selection circles to select multiple transactions. Preview and apply changes to their notes, tags or categories.
Fold older transactions into summaries while retaining the original records for inspection. Regular accounts summarize at month-end; credit cards use their statement dates.
Select transactions by source account, category and tags, preview the changes, and move them to another account or category. Archived records can be included.
Enter Reconciliation Mode to mark records as checked or unchecked and filter by status. Keep a search query when entering the mode; status indicators hide when you leave it.
Drag items in management pages or entry pickers to reorder them. The same list order is used across entry points.
Manage cash, bank accounts and credit cards with their currencies and opening dates. Organize accounts into groups and review assets, debts and net worth, with controls to hide amounts.
Set a total credit limit and view available credit and remaining installment principal. Record repayments as account transfers.
Deactivate unused accounts while retaining history. Accounts without historical records or other references can be deleted. Deleting a group explains the related data changes before confirmation.
Track money borrowed or lent and each partial repayment. Choose whether it affects an account balance and review the amount still outstanding.
Manage parent categories and subcategories for income and spending. Subcategories can inherit their parent’s icon and color or use their own.
Add information that does not fit a category, organize tags into groups, and use them in entry, search and analysis.
Create monthly budgets for selected accounts and expense categories. Review spending, remaining amounts and carryover using your statement period.
Review expense changes by month, year or custom date range. Drill down through categories and open the related transactions.
Review income over time and its sources, with the chart, totals and transaction list using the same date range.
Compare income, spending and the remaining balance over the same period, including category breakdowns and related transactions.
Track changes in assets, liabilities and net worth. Pan, zoom or open the chart full screen.
Review income or expense shares by parent category, expand subcategories and inspect the underlying records.
Review amounts and categories by tag. A transaction with multiple tags appears under each tag, so adding tag totals can count it more than once.
Review spending, breakdowns and monthly carryover within the budget’s account and category scope, down to individual transactions.
Review a statement period’s income, expenses, leading categories and changes from the previous period.
Review annual income, spending, category composition and year-over-year changes, using your global month-start setting.
Analyze payments on their real dates or spread a durable item’s net cost across its actual use so far. Allocation changes the analysis, without creating duplicate payments.
Choose accounts, split categories, budgets, installments, reconciliation and other options in Features. Turning an option off hides its entry points without deleting existing records.
Use accounts, tags, debts and currencies, or turn off the parts you do not need for simpler income and expense entry.
Choose whether the first visit to Ledger after launch opens its home page, all transactions or a selected account. Transaction pages still let you return home.
Prefill categories, accounts, amounts and tags using conditions, and choose a default currency. Everything stays editable; later suggestions do not overwrite manual choices.
Set dates and repeat intervals for recurring income or expenses. Choose automatic posting when due or record them manually.
Use the MonthLedger entry action in Apple Shortcuts to record in the background. URL entry can prefill a form for review; automatic URL submission requires separate opt-in and a local credential.
Add MonthLedger widgets to the iPhone Home Screen to view supported ledger information or open a prefilled entry.
Search and enable currencies and choose a base currency for totals. Update reference fiat rates and prices for 16 supported cryptocurrencies, or edit them manually. No wallet connection or trading is provided.
Set the start of a financial month for consistent monthly reports, annual reports and analysis. Explicit custom date ranges stay unchanged.
Choose an iCloud Drive folder for full JSON snapshots. iOS schedules background runs; missed backups are attempted on the next app launch. This is file backup, not live ledger synchronization.
Keep the default seven days, change retention or delete a backup manually. Expired snapshots are cleaned after a new backup syncs, retaining the latest valid copy and leaving custom-named files alone.
Choose and preview a backup, then confirm replacing the local ledger. A local recovery point preserves the current ledger first.
Download a fictional example showing accounts, categories and transaction formats. Instruction columns are not imported as ledger data.
Validate and preview a file before appending or replacing data. Match account names and category paths without manually entering internal IDs. Invalid or ambiguous data is rejected.
Export records for spreadsheets or migration. CSV is not a full backup; you choose where the file is saved and with whom it is shared.
Save the complete ledger and backup-supported settings for migration or recovery. You choose the storage location; the file is not sent to the developer.
Preview and confirm the backup before restoring it. A local recovery point is saved before replacing the current ledger.
Whole-ledger changes retain recovery points. Restore the earlier ledger and redo a restoration if needed, while keeping separate recovery points.
Review deleted transactions in Recently Deleted and restore them to the ledger when needed.
Choose from 14 app languages in Settings and reopen the app to apply the change. Your account names, categories and notes are not translated or renamed.
Appearance follows the system. The keypad and charts adapt to rotation and window changes while keeping unfinished input and searches.
Browse illustrated steps, control locations and earlier updates in Settings. Help uses an independent sample ledger without reading or changing your personal ledger.
